25 August 2008
Romanian Agency for Foreign Investments (ARIS) sees the country's foreign direct investments (FDI) at EUR 8 billion in 2008, revising upwards its previous forecast of EUR 7 billion. Earlier this month, Romania's Minister of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian said that the country's FDI will hit a record high of over EUR 10 billion in 2008.
'Romania maintains and strengthens its position of leader in attracting foreign direct investments in the southeastern Europe,' said ARIS officials.
In the first half, Romania’s FDI rose by 35% to EUR 4.7 billion on the year, representing a record-breaking hike within the European Union. Moreover, Romania has managed to draw 62.6% of the region’s estimated total annual foreign direct investments in the first six months.
In 2007, Romania's FDI stood at EUR 7 billion.
