Metro opens new Real outlet in Romania

German-based retailed has invested around €23.8 million in a new 12,500 sqm outlet of its Romanian Real network, in Ploiesti.

The store is located outside Ploiesti, in Blejoi, and has a selling area of 7.731sqm and a parking with over 550 spaces, which will employ around 280 persons.

“We invested almost €24 million for this new store, the total investment in Real Romania network – which counts at the moment 24 hypermarkets, amounting around half a billion euro”, said Michel Lamoot (photo), Managing Director of real,- Hypermarket Romania, said in a release.

Real’s Ploiesti outlet comes with a wide range of offers on both sectors - food and non food - the 40,000 products of which 90% come from local producers and suppliers. The shoppers’ flow is ensured by 48 cash registers of which 42 in line with 4 express cash registers included.

Last week, the German retailer opened its third hypermarket in Timisoara, following an investment of around €24 million. The unit has an extensive wine list of 24 sorts, of which 16 red and 8 white and rosé that can be tasted before buying.

“More than 320 Romanian wines from the famous vineyards of the country and regions like Banat, Transylvania, Moldavia, Muntenia, Oltenia, Danube terraces, Crisana and Maramures represent the most complete offer in the Romanian modern retail. The Real’s main objective is to support and re-launch the Romanian wine-growing centers”, the retailer said.

Last year, Real Hypermarket Romania, the hypermarket division of Metro reported turnover of €638 million, up 92% from a year earlier. This year, the German retailer opened three new outlets, to 23 units across the country – Timisoara and Bucharest (three each), Constanta, Oradea (two each), Arad, Bacau, Baia Mare, Brasov, Cluj, Craiova, Deva, Galati, Pitesti, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava and Targu Mures (one).
