August residential building permits up 3% m/m

According to the National Statistics Institute, 4,652 buildings permits were issued for residential projects in August, up 3% compared with July, but down 23.2% y/y. A breakdown shows that 64% of the building permits were for residential projects in the rural area, same as in previous months.
Compared to Aug 2008, the most significant decreases were registered in Bucharest-Ilfov, the north-western zone and southern-Muntenia region. As much as 33,034 buildings permits for residential projects were issued in the first eight months of the year, down 20% y/y.
