Construction works down 29.3% in August

Romania's construction works fell 29.3 per cent in August compared to the same month of 2008, and were down 6.2 per cent compared with July, according to the Statistics Institute.
Adjusted for number of working days and seasonality, construction works dropped by 24.9 per cent y/y and by 7.9 per cent compared with July. Residential construction works were down 22.3 per cent m/m, civil engineering works fell 4.4 per cent m/m, while non-residential constructions increased by 0.1 per cent m/m.
Compared to Aug/08, adjusted civil engineering works were down 21.6 per cent, non-residential buildings works fell 24.4 per cent, and residential buildings works dropped by 38.5 per cent. Over the first 8 months of 2009, construction works fell by 8.9 per cent.
