Romania ranked 55th in Doing Business 2010

Romania has fallen ten positions to 55th place in the World Bank's "Doing Business 2010" rankings, lagging behind Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Botswana and the Baltic countries.
In the World Bank's latest report released today (Weds), Singapore ranks first and New Zeeland second, followed by Hong Kong, the USA and the UK.
Romania is outranked by some Central and Eastern European countries such as Slovakia, ranked 42nd, Bulgaria, 44th, and Hungary, 47th, and also by less developed countries such as Azerbaijan, 38th, and Botswana, 45th.
In the previous Doing Business report, Romania ranked 45th.
Romania ranks 42nd in regard to starting a business, 41st in regard to protecting investors, 46th in regard to trading across borders, 55th in regard to enforcing contracts and 15th in regard to obtaining credit.
On the other hand, Romania ranks 113th in regard to employing workers.
The World Bank’s "Doing Business" report covers 183 economies and the data in it are current as of 1 June 2009. The report analyzes regulations that favour or constrain business activity in 183 economies,
The report covers 10 aspects of business activity: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, employing workers, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and closing a business.
