ARAI urges adoption of new programme to boost construction sector in Romania

08 January 2010

Adoption of a new programme which would boost the constructions sector, as part of the national real estate market policies, is needed both for population and for the Romanian economy, says the Romanian National Association of Realtors – ARAI.

“Even though in 2009 this programme failed to fully hit the target, namely the revival of this sector, it is a must as a main component of the measures aimed to counter the economic crisis effects, measures the government should adopt in an emergency regime”, says ARAI in a release.

The association urges Romania’s Government, the Ministry of Public Finance included, the urgent adoption of a new stimulus programme for the acquisition of dwellings, laid on a fair basis of interpretation of the real estate market and mainly directed to boosting the constructions sector.

ARAI says it is open to back up and to promote a programme, set to produce positive results for the Romanian economy. Premier Emil Boc stated that the “First house” programme will be continued in 2010, as well, but with a stronger accent on the housing constructed from zero. The National fund of credit guarantees for SMEs still not accepts bank files for the “First house” because the Government has yet to pass a normative act on the amounts going to be used this year.

In 2009, the Fund received approximately 11,500 applications within the “First house” programme, the granted guarantees value totalling 485 million euros. As such, from the initially approved ceiling of one billion euros an amount of 515 million euros remained, which might be transferred for guarantees granting in 2010.
